Queen: $50, 1st Runner Up; $25 and King: $50, 1st Runner Up; $25, Court: $10.

Fair King and Queen Contest

Open to 4-H and youth ages 15 to 18 years. Applications available at fair office and must be submitted by July 1^st to the fair office.  Contestants will send a photo suitable for enlargement(such as a school picture), letter of interest and answer questions pertaining to community service, 4-H involvement, etc. Confidential letters of recommendation from a teacher or 4-H leader may accompany the application. A selection committee will choose up to five female and five male entrants as finalists two weeks before Fair. Guest judges will join the finalists for an interview before selecting placings. Minimum scores must be met by applicants for consideration. Winners/placings to be announced at opening ceremonies; finalists must be present & participate in the opening ceremonies, where the Fair King & Queen will be crowned. Court will consist of Queen, First Runner-Up & three Reserve Court members, King, First Runner-Up & three Reserve Court members.

Criteria for judging

Community service and/or 4-H involvement, maturity and poise, public speaking ability conversation, personal appearance, ability to serve as a role model, charm, personality, smile.

Duties

Fair King, Queen and Court will serve as hosts and hostesses throughout fair week.  Available court members will attend opening night, commissioners luncheon, auction, Awards on Saturday, judging of some projects (livestock shows, sweep-stakes), public attractions, make radio appearances, attend and help with activities in the Entertainment Tent, be positive role models and Display appropriate behavior that represents the SCC Fair at all times.

Rewards and Incentives

Savings bonds, awards and prizes for Fair Court members.  Sash and crown for Queen, ribbon badges/corsages for Runner up and Court members to be worn daily.  Baseball caps with "Fair King" inscribed for King.  Sashes for all Court members.  A display board with photos of the King, Queen and Court will be posted in the community building throughout the week.  Rewards and incentives will be awarded upon the completion of duties to the Fair Board/Superintendent's satisfaction.
